Compare the player's fit and fill modes before changing the phone's resolution. Fill or zoom can crop the edge of a video, including subtitles, while rotation changes the available screen shape.

Why this happens
The source aspect ratio and the app's scaling mode are separate from subtitle availability. A track can be present but rendered outside the visible crop.
Work through the steps
- Confirm a subtitle track is selected.
- Switch from fill or zoom to fit if the player offers it.
- Compare portrait and landscape on the same scene.
- Hide playback controls and inspect the subtitle position.
What to avoid
Do not force unsupported display modes. System captions cannot create a missing subtitle track in every third-party player.
Know what changed
Text should remain visible without stretching the picture. If one programme alone lacks subtitles, check its available tracks before changing global phone settings.
