Check for the player in the Apple TV App Store. A publisher can offer an iPhone app without providing a tvOS edition, so a phone purchase or screenshot does not establish that it will install on the television.
Why this happens
Apple TV runs tvOS and needs an app built for that platform. A streaming account cannot change the store compatibility decision.
Work through the steps
- Open the App Store on Apple TV.
- Search the exact player name and publisher.
- Read the listing's supported devices and purchase terms.
- Ask the publisher about tvOS if the listing is absent.
What to avoid
Do not look for an Android APK installer on Apple TV or pay an activation fee based solely on an iPhone listing.
Know what changed
The result should be a verified tvOS listing or a clear statement of unsupported hardware. Installing a different player may require checking its account formats separately.
