A brief black interval when playback changes can occur while the television switches to a matching frame rate or dynamic range. Distinguish that transition from a picture that never returns or repeatedly drops out during an unchanged programme.

Why this happens
Apple's Match Content options can trigger display mode changes. The television, receiver and HDMI path all need to accept the selected mode.
Work through the steps
- Note whether the blank interval happens only at playback start.
- Review Apple TV Match Content settings.
- Compare a known working programme with the same settings.
- If the picture stays absent, test a supported fixed output through the TV directly.
What to avoid
Avoid forcing a format the display does not support. Keep a record of the original settings so the comparison is reversible.
Know what changed
A normal transition ends and leaves stable playback. Repeated blackouts during one scene warrant checking HDMI connections and the display path rather than treating every interruption as Match Content.
