Use a normal Apple TV restart when the interface or player becomes unresponsive. Restart and reset are different operations: a restart should not intentionally remove the saved account, while reset can require a complete setup again.
Why this happens
A process can become stuck without the device needing to be erased. Apple's restart procedure provides a narrower recovery step.
Work through the steps
- Check whether the system menus still respond.
- Use the documented Restart option when available.
- If unresponsive, follow Apple's model-appropriate restart procedure.
- Wait for startup to finish, then open the affected player.
What to avoid
Do not disconnect power while an update is installing. Avoid choosing Reset as a substitute for Restart.
Know what changed
The home screen and player should respond after startup. If only the player freezes again, record the trigger before considering app-specific recovery.
