Chromecast disappears when devices use different Wi-Fi networks

Practical steps, clear explanations and a useful place to start.

Place the sender and Chromecast on the same local Wi-Fi network. A guest network may let both reach the internet while preventing them from discovering each other, so matching internet access is not enough.

Why this happens

Cast discovery depends on communication within the local network. Guest isolation and separate network segments can interrupt that communication.

Work through the steps

  1. Check the Wi-Fi network shown by the sender.
  2. Check the network used by Chromecast in its supported setup tools.
  3. Connect both to the same normal local network.
  4. Test discovery in a known Cast-enabled app.

What to avoid

Do not publish network passwords or disable router security broadly. A router may show similar names for separate networks.

Know what changed

Chromecast should appear as a destination in a supported app. If one app alone cannot see it, check that app's Cast capability and permissions next.
