Casting a browser tab behaves differently from native Cast

Practical steps, clear explanations and a useful place to start.

Identify whether the sender is mirroring a browser tab or handing playback to a native Cast session. These routes can have different controls and performance, so compare them only where the source and apps support each method.

Why this happens

Tab casting sends a rendered browser view, while a supported Cast session has its own media handoff. Success with one route does not prove the other is implemented.

Work through the steps

  1. Note the exact casting method in use.
  2. Test a simple known supported Cast-enabled app.
  3. If tab casting is supported, compare the same source there.
  4. Record whether the failure is discovery, connection or playback.

What to avoid

Do not expose a private playlist URL in a browser recording. Avoid assuming browser casting bypasses a source's playback restrictions.

Know what changed

A useful result identifies the route that works and the stage that fails. Include sender browser or app version and Chromecast model in a support report.
