Google TV joins the wrong Wi-Fi network or band

Practical steps, clear explanations and a useful place to start.

Read the network currently selected on the Google TV device rather than assuming it matches a nearby phone. If the router offers separate bands or network names, compare the available connection while keeping the same stream.

Why this happens

Different radio paths can have different reception and congestion. Switching both the network and programme at once prevents a clear comparison.

Work through the steps

  1. Open Settings > Network & Internet.
  2. Confirm the intended network name.
  3. Test one repeatable programme before changing the connection.
  4. Compare a suitable alternative band or supported wired route.

What to avoid

A higher-frequency band is not automatically better through several walls. Do not change a shared router configuration without permission or record its password publicly.

Know what changed

The chosen connection should remain stable while the same source is retested. If every device on the router fails, investigate household internet service separately.
