Linux player cannot open a saved playlist file

Practical steps, clear explanations and a useful place to start.

Verify that the file exists where the player expects it and that the app can read that location. A sandboxed package may have different access from a traditional package; use the package's documented file access rather than broad system permission changes.

Why this happens

A readable file in a terminal is not proof that every app has permission to open it. A network URL is also different from a local path.

Work through the steps

  1. Locate the actual playlist file in the file manager.
  2. Use the player's local-file import control.
  3. Check package-specific file access if the location is restricted.
  4. Compare with a non-sensitive test file in a permitted location.

What to avoid

Do not make credential-bearing files world-readable or run the player as root. A playlist file can contain account information.

Know what changed

The app should open the permitted file without broad permission changes. If URL imports work but file imports fail, report the package format and restricted location.
