Identify how the player was installed before updating it. A repository package, Snap or publisher-supplied installer can have a different release process. Follow that edition's documentation rather than mixing package sources.

Why this happens
Multiple editions can coexist and leave different launchers or settings. Updating one package may leave the app actually being opened unchanged.
Work through the steps
- Record the app version and installation method.
- Check the package manager or publisher's documented update route.
- Apply a supported update for that edition.
- Reopen the same launcher and confirm its version.
What to avoid
Do not add an unknown repository to obtain a vaguely newer player. Preserve account and licence recovery before changing package formats.
Know what changed
The launched app should report the intended release. If two editions exist, identify which holds the working setup before removing either.
