Try a normal quit first. If the app remains unresponsive, use macOS Force Quit for that app and reopen it. This is different from deleting its preferences or resetting the Mac.

Why this happens
A stalled application can stop responding while the rest of macOS remains usable. A targeted process restart preserves a narrower diagnostic scope.
Work through the steps
- Check whether other Mac apps still respond.
- Try the player's normal Quit command.
- Use Force Quit for the affected player if needed.
- Reopen it and repeat the last action once.
What to avoid
Force quitting can lose unsaved app state. Do not repeatedly force quit during an installer or system update.
Know what changed
The player should respond after reopening. If the same action freezes it again, report that action with the app and macOS versions instead of repeatedly erasing settings.
