Use the channel that supplied the installed edition: Microsoft Store or the verified publisher's documented updater. Similar names in search results can belong to unrelated developers or bundle unwanted software.

Why this happens
Store editions and publisher installers may be maintained separately. Updating the wrong product does not update the app currently holding the account.
Work through the steps
- Record the installed app name, publisher and version.
- Check whether it came from Microsoft Store or the publisher.
- Use that edition's supported update route.
- Reopen it and confirm the reported version before retesting.
What to avoid
Do not enter streaming credentials into an installer or unrelated download page. Retain the existing configuration before switching editions.
Know what changed
The installed version should match the intended official release. If an update changes edition or storage behavior, recover the setup using the publisher's instructions rather than assuming the service account vanished.
