Inspect the player's own volume and its entry in Windows Volume Mixer. Windows can route or mute an individual application separately from the system sounds, so a working notification is only a partial audio test.

Why this happens
Per-app volume and output settings can differ from the default output. The player may also have a muted or unavailable source track.
Work through the steps
- Start playback in the affected app.
- Open Windows sound and Volume Mixer controls.
- Check the player's mute, volume and selected output.
- Compare the same output with another app and another programme.
What to avoid
Keep output volume modest while changing devices. Do not reset all sound settings before checking the affected app entry.
Know what changed
The same programme should become audible on the intended device. If the mixer is correct and only one source is silent, record its track and title for support.
