Installation and app source
Legacy Chromecast receives a Cast session from another device and does not install Android APKs. Use the Google TV workflow for Chromecast with Google TV.
Not all players or streams support Cast. A failed Cast attempt is not proof of failure in a directly installed TV player.
Enter your own account
Start the session using a compatible app Cast button and select the intended receiver.
Choose the login mode the player actually supports. Enter the server, username and password in their respective fields, or use the private playlist URL if that is what the app requests. A player licence remains separate from the source account.
Network and everyday playback
The sender and receiver need the same local network. Isolation, VPN or proxy configuration can interfere with discovery even when internet access works.
The receiver, sender mode and HDMI display determine supported formats. Tab mirroring and a native Cast session need not behave alike.
Check Cast volume and the television or receiver volume. Confirm where sound is routed before changing accounts.
Maintenance without losing your setup
Use the reboot option offered by Google Home or the documented power-restart procedure. Do not interrupt a firmware update.
Google manages Chromecast firmware. Chromecast with Google TV exposes system updates on the TV under System > About > System update.
The sending app runs elsewhere, so legacy Chromecast has no per-player cache button. Troubleshoot the sender app separately.
If the problem remains
Record the device model, operating system, app name and version, exact error and local time of the failure. Say whether another programme works in the same app. That comparison helps distinguish an individual source problem from a general device or account fault.
