STREAMING GLOSSARY

HTTPS: Meaning & Practical Example

A clear definition, an everyday example and the mistake to avoid.

HTTPS is HTTP carried over a secure transport protected with TLS. It helps authenticate the server named in the connection and protect data against reading or modification in transit. It does not verify a service's commercial promises, make credentials safe to publish or guarantee that downloaded content is appropriate.

A practical example

A player submitting account information to a correctly configured HTTPS endpoint protects that exchange while it travels across the network. Anyone who receives the complete account URL or password separately may still be able to use the exposed information.

A common misunderstanding

A padlock or HTTPS prefix is not a review of the website or subscription. Also avoid bypassing certificate warnings simply to make an unknown endpoint accept a connection.
