A virtual private network creates a protected connection or tunnel between participating endpoints under its particular implementation. It can change the route and outward-facing address used by applications while adding processing and network considerations of its own. It is not a guarantee of faster viewing, anonymity, service permission or availability of particular programmes in another location.

A practical example
A household may compare an application's behaviour with an authorized VPN arrangement enabled and disabled to understand a routing difference. The result identifies a changed path under those conditions; it does not by itself establish the precise network fault or grant access to restricted content.
A common misunderstanding
Do not use a VPN to evade content rights, account terms or access restrictions. For troubleshooting, keep the comparison authorized and distinguish route changes from fixes to credentials, decoding or source availability.
