Catch-up TV lets a viewer request some programmes after their original transmission when the service, programme rights and player support that facility. It differs from simply having an electronic guide: listings can exist without a replay source. Available channels, programme coverage and replay periods depend on the specific service and content arrangement.

A practical example
A guide can show yesterday's programmes, but only some entries may offer a playable replay. A viewer selecting an older programme needs a supported archive resource rather than expecting the live channel address to recreate a past broadcast automatically.
A common misunderstanding
Do not assume that every channel has catch-up or that the guide's visible history equals the replay period. A programme can be listed after its recording is no longer available.
