Identity and privacy

Username

A username identifies an account within a particular service or application. It is normally used alongside another authentication factor, such as a password, and is separate from a device's local network name. The same username text can exist in different systems without referring to the same account, provider or set of subscription permissions.

Password

A password is a secret used as part of authenticating access to an account or protected function. It should be kept private and distinguished from identifiers that a system merely displays. Different services can require different passwords, and a saved player configuration can continue containing a password even after it is no longer visible on the screen.

Access token

An access token is a value used by a system to represent permission or an authenticated context for certain requests. Its scope and lifetime depend on the implementation. Tokens can appear in headers, URLs or stored application data, and disclosure may allow another party to make requests without knowing the original account password directly.

Session

A session is a period or context of interaction that a system tracks between a client and service. It can retain authentication or other state across multiple requests, depending on the design. A session's lifetime is separate from a subscription's overall term, and ending or refreshing a session does not automatically change purchased access.

MAC address

A media access control address identifies a network interface within relevant link-layer networking arrangements. Some device or portal systems also use an address-like identifier in registration workflows. It is distinct from an IP address, and its role in an account depends on the application or service rather than a universal IPTV authentication rule.

Device ID

A device identifier is a value a system uses to distinguish a device or installation for its own purposes. It can be created by hardware, software or an account service, depending on the implementation. Different apps on one television may therefore show different identifiers, and an identifier is not automatically a subscription or secret password.

Device key

A device key is a value used by some applications or services in activation, registration or device verification. Its exact meaning is implementation-specific rather than a universal television standard. It may need to remain private alongside the associated identifier, especially when the combination permits account changes or access to a device-linked management interface.

Two-factor authentication

Two-factor authentication uses two different categories of evidence when verifying access, rather than relying on one password alone. The exact supported method depends on the service. It can strengthen an account's protection, but it does not remove the need to recognise phishing, protect recovery information and use the authentic sign-in route for the account.

Password manager

A password manager stores and helps use account secrets through a protected system. It can support distinct passwords for different services and reduce reliance on handwritten or reused credentials. Its security depends on the product, configuration and protection of the manager itself, and it should be chosen and maintained through a trusted distribution route.

Phishing

Phishing is an attempt to trick someone into revealing sensitive information or taking an unsafe account action by impersonating a trusted party. It can arrive through messages, websites or calls. A familiar logo, urgent tone or knowledge of a public order detail is not sufficient to establish that the sender controls the genuine support channel.
