Operating system

An operating system manages a device's hardware resources and provides the environment in which applications run. A television, phone and computer can use different systems even when they share a brand or screen size. App availability, installation methods and supported settings depend on that environment and its version, not just on the device's marketing name.

Firmware

Firmware is software closely associated with the operation of a hardware device, often distributed by its manufacturer. Updates can affect stability, compatibility or device features, but their scope varies. Firmware is different from an individual player's app update, and changing one does not guarantee that every separate application or media source will work differently afterward.

App version

An app version identifies a particular release of an application. Different releases can change features, fixes, compatibility or interface details, and platform editions may not share identical numbering. Recording the version helps make support reports reproducible; an app name alone can be too broad when instructions or behaviour changed between releases on the same device.

App store

An app store is a distribution system through which users can find and install applications for supported devices and accounts. Listings, availability and purchase conditions can depend on platform, model, region and publisher choices. A store account or app purchase is separate from the credentials and permissions of a streaming subscription used inside the installed application.

Sideloading

Sideloading installs software through a route outside a device's usual integrated app-store workflow. Whether it is supported depends on the platform, configuration and software package involved. It is an installation method, not a way to make incompatible software suitable or a guarantee that a downloaded file is genuine, safe or maintained by the expected publisher.

APK

An Android application package is a file format used to distribute software for Android-based environments. A package still has platform, device and other compatibility requirements, and it may come from different distribution channels. Possessing an APK does not establish that its publisher is genuine or that it will operate on every Android device or television.

CPU

The central processing unit performs general computing work in a device. During viewing it can handle application logic, some media processing and other system tasks, while specialised hardware may perform supported decoding. Processor performance is one factor among memory, storage, thermals, software and network delivery, so a CPU specification alone cannot predict every playback result.

GPU

A graphics processing unit handles graphics-related computation and can work alongside specialised media hardware in a device. Depending on the platform, video processing or decoding may use particular acceleration paths rather than general CPU work. A GPU label is therefore only one part of a device's media capability and does not establish support for every codec or presentation mode.

RAM

Random-access memory provides working space for active software and data while a device runs. It is different from persistent storage used for installed apps and saved files. Limited available memory can affect application stability or responsiveness, but the operating system's memory management and the workload matter more than treating one advertised capacity as a universal threshold.

Storage

Storage retains applications, files and other data beyond an individual running session. Its capacity, available space and performance can affect installations, updates and local data handling. Storage is separate from RAM and from a player's temporary media buffer, although applications may use persistent space for caches, downloads or saved settings according to their design.
